Camera is online but no recording, until I pull battery.
Are you saying that it starts recording again when you pull/reinsert the battery?

100%
It's back to fully operational within seconds

Next time this happens, see if you can livestream the camera.

Livestream works fine while camera is still online.

So you are seeing a case where livestreaming is working, but recording is not?
When that's the case, are you able to manually record the livestream?

No.
Is the camera set up to do 2K livestreaming? Manual recording requires turning that off.
My intent here is to figure out if
- something odd is happening with the subscription
- motion detection is failing in the camera
- the camera is going off-line
Could be something else I guess, but I think these are the possibilities to start with.

Don't think it is related to subscription. I go outside, take the light off the mount, pull the battery for a sec, insert it and place it back in the mount. It starts working within seconds. I call that a hard reset or reboot.
Yes, motion detection is failing on device, sometimes. App indicates all is good.
Yes, the camera is going off line, sometimes. App indicates camera is off line.
Please note, I am not saying motion detection is failing when camera is off line. These are 2 different events. Hence 2 different discussions from me on this board.
For both these events, I have to go outside and pull the battery to reset the unit. This too me, defeats the object of have a security camera and absolutely makes no sense as to why I should pay subscription when I have to watch the camera 24/7 to see if it is working. This thing is still under guarantee.

Totally agree. One option is to try Arlo support.
I haven't ever seen a case where rebooting a camera that could livestream, but not record resolved the problem.
That was leading me to think that you might actually have two problems - the camera going offline (needing a reboot to fix) and a different problem causing the recording symptom.
