I purchased an Arlo Floodlight several months ago. It now does not record to the library. It seems I now have to take out a subscription. Is this the case?
I was not appraised to any "down the track" requirement to take out subscription when the purchase was made. There is not suggesting in any advertising that I have seen advising of a future subscription. If this is the case where is the integrity in the marketing of this product?

What was written on the box the camera came in.
Yes, unfortunately it would have been more appropriate to provide some basic cloud recordings functionality even if it was a few days.
I guess if you died because of a home invasion and weren’t found until days later you wouldn’t have any cloud recordings anyway for the police to investigate. This is probably where USB backup could be useful.

There was no obvious indication on the box or in any other marketing that the policy of free 7 days had change and/or was different to other previously cameras purchased.
Indeed it would have been more appropriate to have a few days available. Surely there is no reason, other than lack of intent, whereby a few days could not still be added to this product.
Fortunately, random home invasions occur very infrequently in Australia. And on the point of my death, catching the perpetrator on camera will not matter a tinkers damn to me.
But as is often quoted, "if I am fooled once, shame on them - if I am fooled twice shame on me". Arlo won't get me again.

Unfortunately I think that arlo has shot themselves in the foot since to reintroduce the free basic cloud recordings would raise a lot of anger from those who have already purchased subscriptions for the 30days cloud recordings feature, introduced 2018 onwards.
What is surprising is that the subscription plan requirements for new camera models has been about for four years or so but no warning labels anywhere.
You could always look a another brand that has better box warning labels.
