What is the reason for the difference of model numbers of Base Station to Arlo app?

what is the reason for the difference of model numbers on actual base station to Arlo app? (VMB4000r3 vs VMB4000)

the model numbers are as they are released... 3000,3500,4000,4500,5000

as with different cameras and kits sold

 

R( revision) number are usu hardware changes not software but all in same number group work the same

VBM4000r3 (release 3) seems like a natural update to VBM4000 (release 1).
