2025 September : Had Arlo Pro 2 for years with no real issue, good quality sound and video, and suddenly out of the blue, the recorded sound on live or record is very loud for no reason on all 4 cameras, 3 plugged in and one on a solar panel - same problem.

An update has been done recently (can't remember when - just realised the change lately) and this issue appeared. Software and hardware updates are done. Connecting and disconnecting didn't solve that problem. Videos are unusable now as this sound (static + clicking + amplified surrounding sound - although super quiet isolated area) is unbearable.

Just to be more specific: nothing changed in the location/installation/surrounding of those cameras, meaning no possible interferences or else.

A solution to this?

Thanks

You base stations were placed on firmware version 1.29.1.0

This version should help with the symptom you were experiencing. The base station will auto update, usually within 24 hrs (you can also try to perform a quick reboot of the base station and it may update sooner).  Once the device is on this firmware please test again.

@ShayneS I sent you the serial numbers to my cameras in a private message.

I went ahead and installed the 1.29.1.0 firmware on my Arlo Hub and after rebooting the hub the volume is still loud and over amplified. My hub is model VMB4540r3.

How will the individual cameras receive their firmware updates?

Yeah, no difference in my case as well. Would you please pass on the message @ShayneS to the dev team to do things once but properly? There is absolutely no point at all sending any field trial firmware and wasting our time if it's not been internally tested to work.

@Edinburgh_lad1 Are you referencing the static noise in live stream and or recordings or a different concern? I don't see any posts from you in this thread regarding the audible noise.

@panman91 after your base receives the above firmware, which it appears to be on from your feedback. You should see improvements. You can also try rebooting the base and cameras if the symptom persists.

Hi @ShayneS

It's the volume. It's very loud in comparison to other cameras. I thought this is what thread was also about, not just the noise. If it's not, I'm sorry and please remove my previous comment.

Same here, I can confirm that the firmware updated on my base station. I rebooted the base station and my affected cameras and the problem still persists. @ShayneS what was the update supposed to resolve? Everyone on here has been complaining about the audio being blown out, which is why we're also saying that the problem (meaning the audio is still incredibly blown out) still exists even after the firmware update.

@ShayneS @JamesC

As I mentioned in my other message on this forum, there's clearly a need to 'standardise' volume levels on all Arlo cameras, especially for those of us that have different types of products. Some of these are very loud (Pro 2); others are very quiet when listening, but very loud when using the camera's speaker (Pan and Tilt). I think if you were to measure the volume say at 50% in a quiet lab and then apply volume changes to all Arlo products, it'd be very helpful. I think simply adjusting the volume on the Pro 2 as part of new firmware upgrade risks that it can be too low or two high etc., so this would need to be done in some kind of controlled environment to get the best result.

Clearly: every time I live-view my ultra, I get a good volume, but each time I live-view my Pro 2, I need to lower the volume on my phone. My Audio Doorbell is maxed out because it tends to be quieter, so I'd want that adjusted, too.

After installing the new FW 1.29.1.0 there was no change to the loud volume and static coming from my PRO2 & PRO cameras both recordings and live.

Same here.  Rebooted the base station, verified that I received the firmware update, went to physical cameras and made sure they rebooted.  Once all of that was done, I checked live feed and recorded videos.  They are both VERY amplified.  It sounds like the cameras are located on a highway (heavy constant buzzing).  And I can hear a car a block away that's idling down the road on recorded videos that sounds like it's a semi-truck.  Everything is just crazy amplified.  Is there a setting to turn down the mic???

Hi ShayneS,

I wanted to give it a couple of days in case it made a difference but I can confirm that my base station has updated but this has made no difference to the over amplified background audio for my cameras either.

I hope there is a Plan B.

Thanks for continuing to try to sort this out for us.

As suggested to me by @ShayneS @, removing the affected cameras from the account and re-adding them solves the issue.

I posted last week that the update had unfortunately made no change to my cameras.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I also removed and re-synced one of my cameras after ShayneS suggested I try this.  It worked!  The over-amplification of background noise is gone.  I actually had to hold my phone to my ear to hear if there was any sound instead of being blasted the moment I opened a recording.

I then did a second camera with the same result and worked my way through the remaining cameras (I have five).

It has been a few days now and I feel confident to report that the issue is resolved.  It was a frustrating five months but I am very happy to have everything back working as it should.

I would like to say thank you to ShayneS for sticking with us and getting this sorted.  It is much appreciated.

Please let me know if the issue was resolved

I have the same problem.. it sounds like a electric saw, and then the base and my Arlo pro cameras when offline

i I think that's because the Arlo pro was the 6 camera added

i was able to get base back online and remove the camera

i will try over weekend to add on

my goal is to use pro2 like a ring camera or my apt door and avoid using the essential
