Is there any way to disable firmware updates? I still remember losing like 80% bit rate on one of the previous firmware upgrades and I'd rather not lose more. As it is, I can barely see anything on recorded videos.

No, you don’t have any control over the camera or Base station firmware updates.
You can stall the mobile app updates but unlikely they are responsible for poor digital compression rates from the camera.
I recall reading that purchasing a subscription plan will result in improved video quality, but it’s unclear if it is anything significant.
