I have four cameras setup without a subscription. I use a hub as well.

I want to make sure I can access the library stored locally and it’s working because I’m considering upgrading the cameras. However, when I go to check local storage, there’s no option to access the library, which seems to be how to do it according to articles online. See attached screenshot.

My device is on the same network when I try and everything is updated.

How can I access without disconnecting the drive and viewing on the computer?

Gotcha. It’s really just being able to see videos from past couple of days. That’s why the 7 days free with the older cameras has always been fine.

Thanks, all. Seems like buying all new cameras and smart hub will give me what I need that’s comparable to my current setup of Arlo 2 cameras and the older hub.

Since you have Pro 2 cameras, it's likely you have a base that can't be used to VIEW local recordings. Only the SmartHubs (VMB4540 and 5000) can be used for viewing). If you don't have one of those, you must Eject the drive for viewing on a computer. It's seemingly a hardware issue that prevents older bases from being able to display their recordings.

Wow, that’s been the answer I was looking for. Impossible to get to the bottom of it, but I guess that makes sense.

So if I upgraded to 5s pros, or whatever, I would need to get a new smart hub? I don’t want to pay for a subscription.

thanks!

You do not have to get any new cameras to have local storage access to the app, just the latest Base station 4540/5000.

Even with a new base the app will only give you limited time access to the local storage recordings so you will still need to remove the storage device to view later recordings. In addition you will not have local storage access using the web browser or be able to share them with others.

You would be best off sticking to the original free 7days storage until the pro2 Camera die, then find a brand that better suits your budget.

Good advice.

I was going to upgrade the cameras, mostly due to poor battery capacity and annoying recharging process of Pro 2s.

maybe I’ll just stick it out…

To be clear, you can use the app to view videos up to 30 days old. After that you would need to eject the drive for viewing on a computer.
