Hi, we are looking for a outdoor camera system for our house. We have two questions:

1. Do we need the base station with the Arlo pro 2?

2. If yes, what's the maximum range from the base station to the camera?

These are answered in the product literature. Yes, all of the Arlo wireless cameras require a base station so buy a set. Maximum stated range is 300 feet which is in line with pretty much any WiFi setup. However, reality bites with things that block or otherwise interfere with the signal.  Some folks have had luck out to 90-100 feet, others have struggled with much less. It all depends on your specific environment - testing and trial and error would likely be needed, especially in more problematic areas.
