I have two Arlo 2 base stations and 8 cameras. 5 cameras connected the other 3 said I need a subscription to connect them. I currently do not have a subscription nor do I want to get a subscription. That’s why I bought a second base station.

The 7-day cloud storage offered for the legacy cameras has always been limited to 5 unsubscribed cameras per account.  It doesn't matter how many bases you have, the limitation is per account.

If your 8 cameras are all legacy models, you can work around this by setting up a second account for the other three cameras.  You can then share the cameras using the "friend" access feature (post back if you struggle with that step).

If your other 3 cameras are newer models (not on the EoL list), then you will need a subscription for cloud storage. Or use direct access to local storage (requiring a VMB4540 or VMB5000 smarthub).  You'd still need two accounts if your other base is a different model hub.
