I have the original Arlo camera and base station and want to add a Pro 2 camera to my system. Do I need a new Pro 2 base or can it be added to the original base station? Also, if I am able to add it to the original base station, are there any functions that I will be giving up?

Yes you can add it to your original base. The two most important items you will be giving up will be the siren built into the Pro base and the backup recordings available in the Pro base.

Also check out pricing deals. If you want more than one Pro 2 camera, sometimes the bundles offer the base station basically for free...or in some extreme cases the cameras are even cheaper in a bundle with a base station than they are purchased alone.
