why does a camera show "it's time to charge your battery after it has been plugged in for hours"?

This could indicate the battery is not being charged. Check to make sure the charging cable is properly connected to the power outlet and the camera. Also be sure you are using an appropriate, Arlo branded, charging cable and AC adapter.
