Battery icon is red with an exclamation mark. I looked on another site and it said it means temp is too hot or to cold (32degrees). It is 42 degrees out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Was it below freezing earlier? How long ago?

Yes. It was right at freezing over night, but warmed to 40 several hours before post.

It could take some time for the battery to warm up past its threshold (dunno if that setting is in the camera or battery). There's a certain amount of hysteresis as well as an inexact threshold (some of my batteries have shown as cold above 32F). Seems like 40 for a few hours should have been enough but you could bring the camera inside to warm some to see if that helps, swap batteries, etc. Watch the camera closely next time it gets cold to see when it says it's cold and compare that to the actual temp.
