I am having a go-2 that I want to operate with a thingsmobile SIM. The TM SIM works fine in my phone, the camera works fine with my phone SIM but the TM SIM in my go-2 doesn’t connect. I tried setting the APN manually but that didn’t work either. I have a strong suspicion (backed by some advice I received from ChatGPT) that the go-2 is not working when the SIM requires roaming AND the SIM has not been purchased from Arlo directly.

is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

chatgpt mentions a camera setting to allow roaming but at least on my iOS app I can’t find any corresponding setting.

your help is very appreciated.

Hi @ArminSch

Can you please reach out to your carrier provider to check compatibility for the Arlo GO2 camera.

How/why would any carrier know whether a certain 3rd party product is incompatible?
The SIM works fine in my phone, thus the SIM is technically okay AND roaming is working fine on provider /SIM side.
And as the camera works with a domestic SIM, I find it difficult to see any other explanation than that it is the camera that is refusing to work with the SIM… most likely because it requires roaming.
who else but Arlo could tell whether the firmware is supporting roaming? The carrier certainly isn’t …

The good news:  problem is solved.

after having purchased a German SIM the go-2 works fine in Germany. So, as suspected, it is the software in the camera (not sure whether bug or feature) that prevents roaming.

what I find very disappointing is a) that the problem exists and b) no one at Arlo seems to care.
I have been an Arlo user since the very early Netgear beginning… but nowadays, looking at the disastrous new app and the terrible support for non-premium (while still paying!) customers is letting me recommend to friends and family to look elsewhere for video surveillance…

Actually this doesn't sound like software.   It sounds like a SIM/carrier issue.
