I purchased a two pack Arlo Essential Spotlight Wire-Free Security Camera.

I have three OG Arlos and base station successfully set up.

Having trouble setting up the new cameras, some advice would be greatly appreciated.

When following the provided set up instructions, i get onto the 2.4G network, the blue light blinks after holding the sync button for 2 secs, the camera reads the qr code and chimes; but when the phone begins looking for arlo products it doesn't find anything. Interestingly the blue light seems to stop quite quickly once the phone begins looking, however it will continue to blink again if I press the sync button again. Though this does not fix the issue.

Also I make sure to do this whole process while standing next to the router, the devices are all charged and I do not have a vpn running.

Other things I have attempted are: resetting the camera, resetting the wifi set up, uninstalling and re-installing the app; and making a different phone a trusted phone and attempting the process on that. Both Android and IOS.

Thank you for your assistance.

I am using first gen Essential and definitely selecting the right device.

If you have a spotlight on the camera, make sure you select "Essential Spotlight", otherwise make sure you select "Essential".

First, make sure the wifi network

  • is set to WPA2 (AES) security
  • has no punctuation (including spaces) in the network name or password

Maybe also look in your router's attached device list after the camera chimes, and see if it shows up there.

Make sure you are selecting the correct camera model - 2nd gen only if you have that; also be careful on whether you select the model with the spotlight (or not).

One thing you can try is disabling mobile data service on the phone before onboarding.

If you have the 1st Gen Essential, you can also try using a PC to onboard (my.arlo.com).  That is not possible with the 2nd Gen.

Thank you,

Went into my wifi settings, frequency is 2.4 ghz and security is wpa2.

I 'forgot' my wifi password then re entered it, cut and copied the password from that so it's definitely right, there is no punctuation or even capitals in it.

I am using first gen Essential and definitely selecting the right device.

I have also tried turning off my mobile data too.

Checking my Routers attached device list is beyond me unfortunately, I bought these specifically for the easy onboarding haha.

I have tried going into the PC page via chrome and can login, but when I click on 'view devices' it just keeps booting me to the login screen.

I was going to just hit accept solution but instead think you deserve a post saying what a good job you did Stephen. I should have known it was something I was doing.

Thanks again.
