Hi,

I  will buy a VMC2032 Esssential XL for testing. For that Camera i will use the subscription and Cloud Saving.

If the Quality and Handling is good I will buy another VMC2030 Essential and a VMC2040 Essential Indoor.

For the two new Cameras I only need Motion Detection and then Saving the Video. No person, Car, Animal Detection, No Cloud Saving. For the Indoor camera I never want Cloud Saving, the Second Outdoor Cam only in Holidays.

My Idea is a Single Supscription for 3$  for the VMC2032 instead of 10$ per Month for all three.

With the VMB4540 Pro3 SmartHub I have local Storage for all three Cams, especially  for the Two Cams without Subscription Plan. All Motion Detection Videos are Stored on the USB Stick in the SmartHub.

Is that right?

Yes.  See

There are several caveats:

  • Local recordings can only be viewed with the app (not with my.arlo.com)
  • Local recordings can only be accessed from the primary account (not friend accounts)
  • Local recordings will not have thumbnails.
  • Viewing local recordings locally will require setting up with port forwarding or a VPN
  • You will not be able to make manual recordings on the cameras w/o a subscription
  • Activity Zones also require a subscription.
