I'm thinking about adding an Essential (I'm seeing good pre-holiday prices). I already have a Pro 2 with the VMB3500 base station, so I know the Essential isn't compatible with the base station (and that using a base station is optional), but what would be the drawbacks with adding an Essential? Essential will work on the app, just like the Pro 2, yes? And do I need to have a subscription with the Essential? I like the Pro 2 because I don't have to pay extra.

In your situation, the Essential would connect to your WiFi and, yes, you'd need a subscription since local recordings wouldn't be possible. Another choice could be to buy a Pro 3 system with a hub and move the Pro 2(s) over to the new system. The Pro 2s would still be on the free plan and the Essential could just use local recording for free.
