I have several Arlo Essential XL 2nd Gen camera, model VMC3052Aer1.4, that I use outdoor around my house.

Every year, there is a firmware pushed by Arlo that breaks the camera's functionality until the next one fixes it.

The latest occurrence is 1.4.3_847_b21d876 which broke the motion detection functionality and disrupted wifi connections. Nothing that I could do to resolve the malfunctions, including factory reset and moving to a different location as well as putting next to my wifi router. It took many weeks until the 1.5.0_1048_85f53f3 was pushed to the first camera and restored all normal functions. Unfortunately, this new firmware was not available on the other cameras until 2 weeks later. At which point the rest of the cameras functioned back to normal.

The asks:

1. Arlo to give authority to and let owners approve the firmware upgrade so we can refuse it if nothing is broken (vs. rendering our camera useless for weeks if not months)

2. Arlo to make firmware available to all the same model in the same account so that when a new firmware fixes our issues then we can apply it to all remaining camera instead of the dreaded "no update available" message.

Ultimately, we purchased the products and own it then let us really own it.

Aye, and nothing will be done about it, just as with many other requests.

Indeed, this isn't just the essential camera issue but across the board.

If you're in the UK and Europe, I suggest you write to Verisure's CEO so that something can finally be done about it. They seem to care a bit more, though my recent experience of dealing with top level support for Arlo here in the UK suggests that they too are dropping the standards.
