Is it possible to link the google nest hub to the doorbell so that the image is streamed directly to the nest hub when the doorbell is pressed?

But you can get an audible chime out of linked Google smart hubs when the doorbell button is pressed correct? That's implied here.

(I'm thinking about getting an Arlo doorbell, but won't unless this works)

Correct. These integrations can be configured to announce on doorbell button press.
