Question about best placement of camera for front garage. Which is best above garage facing driveway or on a tree in the front yard facing the drivway? i placed on the tree for 10 days now and i am not getting good sensing. by the time my subject walks to my front door i see part of the individual in the recording due to the delay. For those who have the camera mounted on top of garage facing down, i am concerned about cars passing and more activity since that would drain my camera's battery ...on the other side, it might have a better view of the driveway and catch the subject sooner... heres a video from today showing the position of the current camera https://arlo.netgear.com/#/viewShared/EE0DDAC36917FF6E Thanks,

"It depends." (TM)  😉

I have my driveway camera attached to the house (no garage) pointed relatively straight so the driveway is on the left and sidewalk is on the right and shows the entire street in the upper part. My house is about 30 feet or so from the street and I have few street recordings with sensitivity set at 90%.

YMMV.

Thanks for the feedback. i've had my camera now for 20 days up on the tree...seems to be in a good spot , there is  a 2-3 second delay as we all know so my records for the most part ( of individuals at least) are caught when they are in the middle of the drive way.

the only concern i have at this position is by the time the camera starts recording they are facing the camera but thier face is sideways as they are going up to my front door..seems ok, but i would like to explor capturing the individuals face from the front which makes me want to mount the camera on the garage.  the only issue i have mounting it on the front of the garage is the motion detection as that spot the object moving will be coming toward the camera which from what i read and was advised its not recommended as the camera's best motion detection is done when the object is moving across the cameras point of view.

any other takes on this subject?

Yes, but you may not like the answer... Use two cameras out front.

Use one in the tree  ( A ) and one on the garage ( B )

You can set one camera A to make camera B record and opposite.  In these cases you will get the person walking into the camera not away.

If you want to go on step more, write a few mores rules

1) cam A sense, records on cam A

2) cam A sense, records on cam B

3) cam B sense, records on cam B

4) cam B sense, records on cam A

put all in a MODE ( make above active rules ) called outside cams. you will get them walking into and from the two cameras for a total view of the action

thats a good idea..its just adding an additional camera doesn't come cheap but a future upgrade ! i only have one camera up right now mainly for driveway view to protect my car as we had some break in over the summer.  Its a good idea i eventually want to add a few camears around the house and inside.  It just depends on which area of the house i want to focus on.

what do most people do as far best placement for 5 cameras ( max for free cloud storage)? do you patch every single potential side an intruder may come in ?

i wanted 2 up front ( porch and driveway) one on the bigger side and one in backyard and one inside (living room ). i was just wondering the best usage for these cameras.  i only need one inside as my house is not big and have a main open floor plan so one inside is enough inside.
