I just installed an Arlo wire-free camera 2 days ago, and tonight on the second day of having it 3 people broke into my car, which the camera is directly facing. And of course it picked up nothing.

My partner checked the camera after hearing something outside, to see 3 people having a look thorugh my car. First thing I though was how lucky I was to get them on camera the second day after putting it up. But of course, the camera detected nothing, no recording what so ever. Its picked up many other things but not the one thing it needed to, and the reason I bought it.

I did a mothion detection test to find that even on 100% it picks up nothing on the opposite side of my car, even though you can clearly see someone there, and its 5 meters from the camera at most.

So what did I pay $300 AUD for exactly?

Have you checked the FAQ for best detection?  Improper setup is the most common problem - motion ACROSS the FOV, perhaps starting near and edge.  Too much extraneous view or motion directly towards the camera frequently confounds detection.  Post a screenshot of your view.

It does motion across the camera. And it picks up every little movment from the plants but nothing from the opposite side of the car. It also didnt pick up the light turning on in my car.

I think the issue is partly due to distance to the far side of the car as well as the car blocking that motion. Your position seems fine (maybe a little trial and error to fine tune it although I don't know it would help).  The only thing that might help a little would be to move the camera to the left as seen looking out so the camera is a bit more squarely pointed at the cars.  Do you have more than one camera that you could try swapping around to see if it's related to a specific camera?
