The camera uses IR (heat differential) to capture motion.  It will "see" car engins, people, animals, etc.

In the past I had web cam software that actually detected any type of motion to begin recording.  If anything moved within range, it would be catured.

Does anyone know of a software that I can use with this system?

Not at this time - it's all proprietary.

that was more than likely a system that detected motion via change in the actual pixels ( of the camera view )

This system uses a IR sensor which is a PIR

These IR cams can not "see" through a window, for instance.

More specifically, the IR motion detection doesn't work through a window.

Yes, that's exactly what I said.  IR cams can't see through windows.  They work on heat differential vs pixel differential.  That's why I asked the question if anyone knew of a software that would (see through windows.)
