Two issues 1. I get alerted there is motion detected but when i look at the clip there is nothing. just my front door and nothing else.
2. When trying to get something captured we had someone try to trigger it but the clip didnt have anyone showing
please advise if there are settings changes to do to make this actually work for what it is intended for

You can edit your modes to increase sensitivity (be sure to save!). The rest is postioning so motion is across the FOV, perhaps starting near an edge. Use live view to capture a snapshot. Go to your library, view the snapshot and share the link here so we can see what's up.

it is turned 90 degrees so not to have the sidewalk in the frame that will throw many false alerts. please let me know your thoughts. i get alerts when me or my wife go through the door, look at the clip and there are no people.

I downloaded and rotated the snapshot so now it's obvious. My brain wasn't rotating it properly.
I think your problem is that it's much too close to capture the action. Since there's a minimum of about 2 seconds lag inherent in the system (detect motion, create connection, start recording), there's an excellent chance two seconds won't capture the actual scenario. As suggested by Hula Rock, a different position that would INCLUDE more scene would be useful so the system has a chance to react to motion so the subject is captured. This is unusual - most people include too much scene for effective recording while I think this one is too little. Good going! 🙂
Before going too far, though, it might be useful to test to see how much lag your system is seeing so you can use that info to help reposition.
