Is there a way to save the brightness setting on a camera?

You set the brightness by live viewing and using the half white, half black sun thingie. Once set, it's saved.

I did that, but when I go back and check it is again on full brightness.

Just tried playing with my camera and realized that you select the brightness control icon, set the brightness and then select the brightness icon again to save.  You should see a "Brightness Saved" message at the top of the live view. Were you missing that last step?
