The mobile app should have a preference to never ask for a password once validated; we have the app on a tablet for the sitter to use - should the Arlo network have troubles (like regularly) the app provides a notification "Arlo unavailable" and presents the user with a login screen and no filled in password. This means i need give a sitter a password to our Arlo cameras, which isn't going to happen.

You can SHARE access to a sitter.... allow only certain cameras and admin levels. ( settings/grant access )

With sharing, they can use a tablet/phone you own or theirs with a separate PW-User id.... you do not have to give out the primary account info, so you never loose control.

You misunderstand the use case.  Phrased differently, i would like to authenticate to a device and not an individual.

Your proposed solution (which we already do for the house tablet -- there's no reason the sitter need see the cameras in the tool shed or the giraffe birthing house) means that an individual (the sitter du jour) is walking around the planet with the login to look at the camera in the kids room whenever they want - at home, at a bar with their friends, on the intertoobs shared with who knows who should they become disgruntled. This is obviously a bad solution.
