15 feet motion ?

I bought my camera three days ago and been playing with placement of front drive way . I have placed the camera on a tree around 7+ feet posting down facing my garage . I've tested motion using the test feature and am not getting close to 15 feet motion ...I am getting like 7-10 feet . In my test I walked across the camera. I very been reading about motion issues and am trying to see if this will work for me . Am ok with the level of detection as I already got some videos of deliveries and such but I feel I could have some "blind ' spots ...any suggestions or hints is appreciated .

It kind of hard to determine if your shot is good without any pictures....

My best advice is to place it where you want to cover, don't try and get to large an area so you can see the peson at a good size, test it out to see where you 'dead' spots are and then maybe move to eliminate as best as possible. Sometimes you will be able to cover only half of what you want, but a good shot of half is better than none.

Thanks for the feed back.  I agree that it may not cover alot, its half of what i really want covered but i am just concerned as detecting motion is very important to even start recording right?  attached is where i located the camera.  i drew lines where i was able to detect motion...is this sufficent in your opinion? as you said its better than nothing..in a perfect world i wanted any motion further up the drive way from the right side is not being covered.  thoughts?

Distance for detection can be difficult... as to coverage to your front walk looks good... have you tried to sneak from the side walk to right side along the garage door to the front walk?  It is a trial and error.. so far looks like a good start.

Yes if you come in from the right side by the garage , no detection.i want to cover middle of driveway and the front door entry.  i tried tilting the camera little bit up to increase the lenth of the coveage but when i do that coverage gets worse . Thats when i have to tilt teh camera down little more so it look downwards.

one note , i am not sure if it has anything to do with motion detection but my camera has 2 bars in network connectivity.  is this related? 

I also have the hub in my living room in the entertainment center, does the hub perform better if its in the 'open air' or it doesn't matter?

2 bars is the signal strength from the camera / base....

Putting the base in a location will effect it to the point of blocking wifi ( it depends on the building materials ). . it may have to do with maybe using more battery at tmes to connect back to the base, but prob shouldn't effect the PIR that detects movement.

more important is the camera LED on the front of the base..if that starts to blink , then your cam is prob at max range.

Thanks for teh info , its ben consistant at 2 bars so i'll play with that as i don't want the battery to drain more than it should be. 

i've been getting around 5 false recordings today due to branches moving a little...i've decreased my sensitivity from 100 to 87%.  i guess i'll keep plugging away on testing and finding the best scenario to keep it more accurage.

I have done multiple tests on this system and I can personally tell you, in my expeience, motion detection in the middle of the field of view is sub par. (the right side of your garage) in your case.

i guess i can live with the right side not having good coverage, i just wish i can bump the coverage little further up...looking at the picture if you see my lines, if i can 'shift' these lines like 2 -4 feet upwards then i can feel little better. 

in my few days i had the system, i had two people walk up to my front door , surprisingly in the path i outlined in my picture and the camera started recording.  my concern is if someone is in the middle of my driveway teh coverage is not great.  typically i park in the middle of the driveway so if anyone really was going to do any damage to my car they would have to come on the driver side and the camer 'should' catch them.  

it just seems the camera's motion detection is not as consistent.  i have seen a video of one camera that was mounted on the garage pointing to the street ..and the view to the streed was at least 20 feet so that made me wonder why isn't 'my' camera doing that !!! i want it to go 15 feet in the right spot.
