I am thinking about purchasing a set of the cameras but I am concerned about the distance away from the router/hub. My current sky router cannot handle the distance and only covers half the house for wifi. Does anyone have an older style house with solid walls where they have used these cameras and how far do they actually work inside? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello AP,

Thank you for your interest in Arlo system.

Arlo system comes with base station and camera/s. The cameras will connect wirelessly not to your router but to the base station. Base station is the one that will be wired to your router.

Please see How far from the base station can I place my Arlo camera?  article for you to have an idea about distance between base station and the cameras.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for your response.

i have seen the specs about distance but I often find that by the time obstructions like walls are included then the signal drops dramatically. I was just hoping for a little information from someone who has a brick built house and how much the distance reduces through walls?

Regards

I'm running a distance inside of over 75 ft with full strength... as with all what your constuction is made of can make a big diff!.

My max distance has been over 150 ft with a usable camera.  The only way to be sure is 1) try it 2) add additional bases to increase range

PS. BTW, the arlo base puts out a slightly stronger signal than my wifi unit

Thanks for your response. I did go out and buy two cameras with the base station. I set up the camera and picture was coming through on the app so I moved away from the base station to the room where I wanted one of the cameras situated. Every time I got half way to the room the camera would go offline! Walked back to the base station and the camera would appear again!! Did this a few times until it seemed like it must have been the distance, which believe me was only about 10 metres!! It was merely out of one room and half way up the stairs!! Needless to say they have been returned!! Thanks for the info anyway

Thanks for the info on your part, there must be some sort of metal/lathing blocking the signal...

sorry it didn't work out for you.
