So, I just noticed that a new Arlo Q variant (Arlo Q Plus) has been announced about three weeks ago.
I hadn't seen this new model being discussed anywhere.
This one provides Power over Ethernet (PoE) and local video storage on an SD card.
Seems to come with a bulky adapter though that has to be mounted close to the camera. I don't own an Arlo Q, so can't say much about how big of an improvement the Arlo Q Plus will be.
Interesting though that local storage will be available soon.
Amazon lists the Arlo Q Plus becoming available on May 23, 2016.
Wonder when/whether the wire-free cameras will see hardware upgrades, like local storage, optional mains power connectivity or external motion sensors.

The major changes with the Plus model is the card slot/storage and POE via an ethernet port.
Only thing missing is the waterproof model ! 🙂
Doesn't appear to any other diff at this time.
Netgear's Info
Arlo Q Plus is packed with all the great features that the Arlo Q camera offers. In addition, Arlo Q Plus comes with a PoE adapter that allows for the camera to be simultaneously powered and connected to the Internet using a PoE switch and one single cable. It also supports traditional Ethernet, for situations where a hard line connection is preferred over WiFi. The Arlo Q Plus camera also has a built-in SD card slot that allows for local backup storage in the event of Internet interruption.

Where/when can we actually buy this darn thing????? First May 23, June 1, then June 3 (Amazon forecast) and now it says they'll notify us?! Found it declared in-stock in-store and online at one retailer but when I placed the order found out it isn't really in stock. Arlo technical support say this product is not available in North America and they have no way of knowing when it will become available. That came from 3 different phone agents and one chat agent. Really Arlo???
If you're going to launch a product - launch it on time! Now I don't know what to do. I like the Arlo Q, but the video is lagging due to poor wireless connection and no on-board storage is a deal breaker for me. Was planning on taking back the Alro Q and ordering the Arlo Q Plus but that means no security for the foreseeable future.
Really annoyed! At least give us a date!

Amazon is now giving a ship date of "1 to 3 months". I wouldn't hold my breath for the Q Plus to see the light of day any time soon. Apparently "Early May" was optimistic.

I do not have an exact release date for Arlo Q Plus at this time but we are hoping to ship soon. I will post an update as soon as possible.

Would've been nice if the Q could be used outdoors.

I ran the Q outdoors for a couple of weeks.... planning to do longer once power source in place. It was in a covered area and had no problems..
Mine you that it was short termed.
