I have an Arlo set up to capture a front door and it will sporadically "focus" (you'll see in the first split moment of this video) and it trips motion.

It happens almost every time a car drives by.  The motion is currently set to 10%.  Like a burst of bright light hits the camera and it has to re-focus which causes a moption trigger.

What's going on here?  Thanks for your advice!

It appears to be the Iris adjusting to the amount of light present at startup... not really focus

Not a user adjustment.  But is you have more than one camera, swap it with another to see if the second one does the same thing.

If it turns out to be the first camera only, replace by store or Netgear thru support.

The back camera does it sporatically too but just not as often (since there isn't much activity back there).

Wouldn't there be a way for a firmware update to be made to ignore motion for the .25 seconds or so that the camera is adjusting the iris?  This seems trivial.

And then people would complain that they're missing the first .25 second of video.  It's happened here before...  🙂

So is there a solution at all to this? Iris shield? Or do I just have to change locations?

There's likely nothing you can do to change the operation.
