Why camera says "Do Not Use Rechargeable Batteries?"

Originally, there were no certified rechargeable batteries for these cameras. The prohibition for rechargeable battery usage was to prevent damage to equipment and the resulting warranty claims. There's a huge old thread here an the trials and tribulations of testing various batteries if you're really bored. Suffice it to say, many different batteries were tried and quickly discarded - some, including myself, used some of the cheap, crappy Chinese batteries marked as 2300mAH which is totally bogus. Not only did they not last long (probably more like 500mAH or less) but there were reported occasions of camera fires aand meltdowns due to the poor quality and the lack of protective circuitry in the batteries. Arlo then worked with Tenergy to produce a certified rechargeable solution which works very well. These still don't last as long as the OEM batteries since they can contain only about half the capacity as the OEM - it's physics and chemistry. However, the utility quickly overcomes the cost even of bulk-purchased OEM-style batteries since you simply recharge them

That's a brief synopsys of the history for rechargeable batteries in this camera. Not sure where you see that statement but I wouldn't be surprised to find that the printing in the docs enclosed with the cameras hasn't changed.
