What is the maz. distance a camera can be placed away from the base station?

Hard to say because so many things can interfere with the connection. Theoretically, 300 feet but 75 or so feet may be more typical since the signal passes through walls, etc.

Yes...

Outdoors, with clear line of sight / no obstructions but one wall, I maxed at about 120ft+

But the lower the signal at the camera, possible more battery power used over long term
