Got a 3 camera setup for xmas. I see these camera's are battery operated. How long do the batteries last? Will the camera's be monitering all the time or just when they sense movement? I ask because I was planning on mounting 2 on the eves of the house. 15 feet up so it's up and down a ladder for a 57 yr old person to change batteries. Maybe I need to look at electric powered ones are wire thru the attic.

Batteries will last 4-6 months as long as the total number of minutes of recording and live viewing is held to 5 minutes per day or less. The connection between the camera and base makes a difference, too, since a weak or poor signal causes the camera to work harder to maintin the connection.

The cameras only record on motion. Full-time operation would kill the batteries in short order.

15 feet up is probably a poor choice given the 110 degree angle of view - you would have far too wid a view and detection would be limited to onl a small part of that view. I use 7-8 feet up and angle the cameras down to make sure I get detection where I need it most. There's an FAQ here with great suggestions to help position the cameras properly.

BTW, I'm almost 68 and can manage the camera removal for battery canges with no issue, partly because the cameras aren't so high.

Battery life under 20 degrees Fahrenheit is poor at best.
