will a VMB4000 work without subscription (post EOL edict) using arlo mobile app, local video storage via usb, and older wireless, rechargeable battery cameras?

Yes, but you will need to remove the USB stick from the base, and connect it to a PC to view the footage.  The VMB4540 and VMB5000 support viewing the locally stored videos directly in the app, but the other bases (including the VMB4000) do not.

Yes, direct access to local storage should continue to work (based on the EOL faq)

The feature is described here (the second link is for "Feed", which likely is what we'll be using by the EOL date):

If you don't have this now, you should be aware of the following limitations:

  • Recordings are only available in the app (not the browser)
  • Recordings are only available using the primary account (not shared accounts)
  • You cannot save snapshots or manual recordings
  • No thumbnails - all videos need to be downloaded to the phone to view
  • remote access requires router settings changes that some find difficult (and which aren't possible with some internet service providers).
