VMB3000 base unit has usb, but doesn't have the app feature to activate local recordings

I have the basic VMB3000 base unit, with basic Arlo cams. This base has 2 usb slots, just like the Pro line. However, even after inserting a usb flash drive into either slot, I can't record. The app does not show the "local storage" feature to activate this feature. Do these units local record? If this base unit does not offer local storage, why are there 2 usb slots? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The original base has never had useful USB ports. They were listed as for possible future use but never activated. The Pro base does have working USB ports. Perhaps you could return the system and get a Pro system instead.
