Starting to learn about Arlo. Can I use the R8000 router? If yes am I only able to use one camera? And I guess if I don't have wifi at the point at where I want to place the camera it won't work even with the Arlo base unless I move the router/base closer. As far as picture quality how far away will Arlo "see".

I don't think that router is compatible. The R7000 is. The base station needs to reach the camera, not the router. I guess look at the signal strength indicator on the Arlo camera page to see if a camera is outside the base station's range.
Viewable range is subjective. I can see the garbage truck at the edge of the frame on one of my cameras pretty clearly and identifiable - some 100 ft away in the street.
However, typically you don't orient your camera at an expansive scene, because you'd have too many trigger events run the batteries down within a day or so.
