@BrookeN

Every morning (since the latest firmware update 6.6.0_6060002 on 11/11/2025) when I go into the Arlo app and have done nothing but open the app, five of my eight cameras show an image that was just taken with "just now" in the upper left of the frame and three cameras show only a black image (with no "just now") although, if you tap the black image then those three show the last image taken but will revert back to the black image when you go back to "Dashboard" or "Devices". Note that when go to the app in the morning, the app is in "Arm Home" after being in "Standby" all night.

Three of the five cameras, which show the "just now" image, are active in "Arm Home" but two of the five are only active in "Arm Away" which happens when both phones are outside the geofencing zone and that was about two weeks ago.

Of my three cameras that are only active in "Arm Away" (one is black, two show the "just now" image) and when I tap the image to show the list of video clips, the two that have the "just now" image show 10 second "motion" video clips taken when I went into the app and the one with the black image shows the last video clip from two weeks prior, when in "Arm Away".

Two of the three that show the black image are cameras are active in "Standby" & "Arm Away" and when I tap on the black image they show, in the list, the last image taken during "Standby" and not the 10 second "motion" clip.

The three cameras that are active in "Arm Home" (also included an all modes) and show the image with "just now", taken when I first went into the app, do not show a 10 second "motion" video, with the time corresponding to the time I opened the app, in the list of video clips.

At the time I'm seeing all of this unexplained behavior, and I do nothing in the app (live stream, play video clips, etc.) then go to the web portal, everything in the web portal is as it should be unlike the app.

Logging out of the app and back in does nothing to resolve this and the three cameras that are in "Arm Home" will show the correct images when triggered by motion and continue to do so, and if I live stream the remaining five cameras (with the "just now" or black image) they will display the live stream image as the last one taken.

A few days ago, I decided to reinstall the app and thought all was well until the next morning when I went into the app and found the same issue.

Applied the recent update (2-13-26 version) and have the following issues.  When the app is opened all camera pictures are blurred and don't correct until a live view is initiated. As soon as the live view is closed the picture goes back to being blurred.  Is doing it on 2 systems that are operating.  Also..lost all inventory of feeds that were on both systems. Just never seem to leave good things alone.

The blurred tiles is a bug that needs resolved. Arlo is aware.

@BrookeN
Brooke,
Before I begin, I'd like you to know that what follows is no reflection on you. You do an amazing job of taking care of handling the issues that come up on these support forums.
Paul

Now, to the powers that be at Arlo...what the hell is going on there? This "blurred tiles" issue, that started back in the beginning of February when the "black tiles" issue was attempted to be fixed, is absolutely unacceptable!
Note that all of this started back in late November when the, now gone, "NOW" feature was originally implemented.

Tonight, I got a push notification on one of my cameras and when I signed into the app, which of course had the usual blurred tiles that fix themselves when you toggle back & forth one to two times from Dashboard to Devices, I toggled back & forth between Dashboard and Devices for almost THREE minutes before I could see any tiles with a clear image. Of course, the one camera that I wanted to live stream now showed the "Your Arlo device appears offline, please make sure it's powered on and connected to the internet" message along with one other tile that remained blurred...note that this happens about half the time, since the "blurred" problem started, and it's always the same camera that is offline (see message 23 in this post) but usually, within anywhere from 30 minutes to 3-4 hours, this camera comes back online and the 1-2 tiles that remain blurred (not always the same ones) will come back after, again, toggling back & forth from Dashboard to Devices.

It's not only this problem that seems to not be addressed expediently, I also have three other issues which date back to August of last year.

Although long time loyal users of Arlo products have, unfortunately, become used to issue after issue...think about people who have recently spent good money on what's believed to be a top-of-the-line security system and when they open the app, all they see is blurred images...if that were me, I'd be packing up the system and returning it. That's no way to treat customers who have spent a lot of money on your product.

Very disappointed,
Paul

Yes, all staff on here are extremely helpful as much as they can and should serve as a model for any other forum. In fact, they're the first point of contact for me if there are any problems. Thanks to them, a number of issues have been resolved for me and so I'm very grateful for their help. But, it's unacceptable that there are some many issues in the first place. With the way things are at the moment, and have been for the past few years, it's not the top-of-the-line system, although their marketing and price point suggest so. I'm appalled that the app is still work-in-progress with one issue leading to another. For a commercial product, that's not acceptable at all.

@KachinaShadow I do apologize for the frustration. Our team is looking into this behavior. As soon as there is any updates, I will reach out to you and the community.

I just updated to the latest Andoid app, v6.16, and the blurred thumbnails seem to have disappeared. They still show initially but in a few seconds the actual thumbnails show up. YMMV

On the 12th you mentioned just updating to v6.15 and now v6.16...so why do I show that I'm still on v6.14?
I'd like to see just what difference v6.16 makes for me although it seems odd that even that has only partially fixed the problem since you're still initially seeing the blurred tiles. I'm not a software guy but it would seem to me that the answer would be to roll everything back to where it was in late November when the, now gone, "NOW" feature was originally implemented...that way you'd have a clean state to start over.
@BrookeN How do I go about getting the ap updated?

IMHO...it appears to me that these major issues seem to show up with the implementation of too many changes at once (when the bugs from the implementation of the last "new" feature have not yet been worked out).
I drag raced for decades and the one thing you didn't do was to make more than one change at a time to your setup so that if it didn't work, or slowed the car down, you could undo it (knowing exactly what it was that had changed) and then change something else...the only time that didn't apply was when you were down to the last qualifying run and were desperate to make the show.

I presume, and this is my speculation only, what is happening is they're fixing issues as they go along and release a version of the app that addresses the issue, but not necessarily a new issue that might have surfaced before then but requires more time to fix. But then once that other new issue is fixed, the version of the app that was used to fix it doesn't address the first issue. That's why it sometimes feels like they make a step forward but two steps back and some issues that might have been addressed in a release re-appear all of a sudden later. Then there appears to be a cumulative release around Christmas that seems to address all the past issues all at once. Just a speculation that I can be entirely wrong about.

@KachinaShadow 6.16 is not quite available as of yet. Also, how cool you used to drag race. I bet that was such an amazing time in your life!

They do tend to slow-roll the app and firmware updates.   I believe that is to limit the damage if they run into a serious bug in the field.  They can pause the rollout until they figure out what went wrong.

On my iPhone, if I go into the apple app store and search for the app, I see "open" as the option for the Arlo app (since I already have it installed).  If I press the "open", it opens the app store entry and the control changes to "update", and then I can update it. That is a different path then the normal one for looking for app updates, and usually gets me the update before the normal path shows it as a pending update.

Not sure if that works for similarly for Android or not.  If not, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and see if that gives you the current version.

I think a better analogy here is a pit stop, where there are a lot of choreographed separate activities that all have to be managed.

Even one bug fix will often require modifications to multiple components (cloud server, multiple apps, and/or camera firmware).  Each fix is normally done and tested in isolation by a development team, but things can go wrong when all the fixes are merged into the production stream.

Backing out can be really tricky, since all the components are dependent on each other, so needs to be carefully coordinated to keep everything from falling apart.  This is especially true if you are going back several months.  You can't (for example) just go back to the old server code until you are sure no one is running app versions that require the new code.

@StephenB
It was a good thought on the uninstall & reinstall of the app 👍  I gave it a try but unfortunately, it's still 6.14

The pit stop analogy is good too...of course, being a drag racer there's no real pit stops, just time between rounds for repairs & adjustments to the setup. About all we're able to choreograph is taking things apart and putting them back together in a short amount of time...pretty much like all we know how to do is go straight and hope the parachute comes out at the end of the run 😁

Thanks, and yes it was amazing and a real thrill, but it got so expensive that we decided to have a boat built and still enjoy that to this day...jury's still out on whether that's any cheaper though 🤔 🙄 😉

That is a really nice boat. I can only imagine that it probably cost the same for the upkeep with prices these days.

Fortunately, I do all the work myself so that saves a bunch. Most of the expense is the gas (SoCal prices) in the boat and sometimes even more in the truck...we're three miles from a small lake but prefer to go to the California Delta (6 hours away), Lake Powell in Utah (11 hours away) or Channel Islands, 25 miles off the coast of Santa Barbara (1 hour away).

Sounds like great options.  I've been to Lake Powell, but not the others.

We have a 75' houseboat on Powell...been going there for 29 years

I guess until this blurred tile thing is resolved we can always talk about non-Arlo stuff  😉

For anyone looking for the BLURRED VIDEOS UPON OPENING THE APP discussion then this is it!

We got a little off track for a while (gotta have some relief once in a while) but now we'll turn it back over to the actual issue at hand...I think 🙄

Back on topic (:D) I do note that I've been an app beta tester for a long time (the Play Store notes this) so I suppose that's why I'm ahead of others. The other possibility is the slow roll-out theory but I have no idea which is (more) true. You may want to see if you can apply for beta status in the Play Store.

It is because you are a beta tester.
