Second base station install

Hi there,

I got two Arlo wire free systems this week. Both are installed and working. One is in my office under one internet connection (1 Base station + 5 cameras) and the second one at home miles away under a different internet connection (1 base station + 3 cameras). I upgraded to the Elite plan a few minutes ago. I want to know how can I see and control both systems (office and home) from the Arlo iPhone App so I dont have to log in and out all the time as I used two different email accounts.

The proper way to set up more than one base on the same account is that it must be done in the same place ( same wifi/switch when set up)

Once they are both working you move one of the bases (and associated cameras ) to the new location.... they should all appear under one account now.

Since you already set a second base at a second location, you'd prob have to REMOVE all cameras from that base and DE REGISTER the base , then bring them to your main location and set them up as new on your home account ( add DEVICE, then resync the cameras wanted to the second base )... then pack them up once working and take them back to the office.

All correct but you do make mention of one step that isn't necessary. The user would not have to take the second base station to the same network as the first to add it to the primary account. When adding a second base station to an account you only need to be on the same network as the device you are using to add it. That network does not necessarily have to be the same network as the first base station on the account.

I am going to buy my mom a wireless arlo system just like mine, but before I do, I just want to clarify this process before purchasing.

If I read and understand what James C is saying, all I have to do is connect the second base station at my house to the new cameras, then disconnect them. At that point I can drive over to the second location, plug the base station in and it will automatically connect without doing anything other than plugging in the new base station, correct?

Please advise me if I am missing any steps here as it seems almost too simple to do. The only reason I say that is because the second base station only needs any open internet connection and no further configuration using a completely different IP address than the one I set the system up on at my house.

Yes, the way you describe should work...Use the ADD DEVICE button to setup the second base and those cameras that will be sync to it, unplug and move , replug in.

What James was clearing up was the point that you can ADD the new base AT you Mom's home too... You sign into the primary account there and ADD DEVICE at the secondary location....just that the DEVICE used to log in MUST be on the same network as the Base your adding in

The IP is dynamic so no problem with a different one.

Just remember the limitations are based on the # of cameras as per your service level ( not the bases ), You can only sync a camera to one base at a time, and max streaming is 5 cameras per base.

Whoa whoa stop the clock....

I currently have a 5 camera set up at my house, and I want to add another 2 for my mom's house. Under that scenario you are telling me I would have to pay for a subscription to go "up a level" in service?

If that's the case, and I don't want to go that route, could I just buy a base station, synch it to my existing cameras and pull two cameras off my house and still be at the 5 max allowed streaming and not have to pay an extra fee.

Let me give you another scenario....what if I purchased a two camera system and set it up at her house, configured the settings using her computer, and just have it show me notifications of motion or view the cameras remotely on any PC, wouldn't that be another option?

I want to keep the system simple, but at the same time I don't want to pay for a subcription just because I have too many cameras on my account. The pay for subscription is why I sold my Dropcam on top of not being an outdoor camera. If I wanted to pay for a subscription for cloud service or extra cameras I'd rather have a hard wired system installed by professionals.

The entire beauty of the Arlo is the simplicity of wireless and NOT having to pay extra fees monthly after spending $500.

You are limited to the number of cameras based on your service level...Basic (free) is 5, then 10, then 15 ( last two $ extra )

You have a few choices....

1) set up an account at your Mom's using a new email and password for 5 cameras for free.  Since you set it up, you can log in when ever. This would also give you full control of the account if needed ( my mom's not so sharpe on computers so I know ) Your two accounts would be separate.

2) take ( they don't sell bases by themselves BTW ) another base and between your home and mom's have 5 cameras TOTAL for free ( no limit to # of bases )

3) Do # 1 above, then SHARE the couple of Mom's cameras back to your account and have some control of her cameras ( during the share process levels of usage/control are granted )

4) list your email as one of the alert addresses from Mom's free account.... when you get an email you can view the link to the video ( link only lasts for 24 hrs )

so many choices  🙂

Hi All, There are two topics in this thread. They were very helpful for me.

I just added a second base station to my account at a home 300 miles away from my other base station. It worked perfect!

I have 5 cameras + 1 base station at one home and 2 cameras and one base station at another home. All of the cameras show up on my "devices" under one subscription. 

I have an Elite subscription.
