Scheduling a.m. to a.m.???

I am unable, it seems, to set a schedule for an a.m. time to an a.m. time on the Android Mobile app. I'm trying to set 10:00p.m. to 6:00 a.m. but it will not let me. What am I doing wrong?

Split the schedule at midnight. 10pm-12am, 12am-6am

I don't think I can do that on a single rule, so I would have to change the mode, no?

Nope.  Has nothing to do with the mode or rule.  You simply add the mode starting at midnight to whatever and then add it again from some time to midnight.  Look at how the schedule is displayed - set it according to how it looks.  It starts and ends at midnight.
