I have the cameras set to record for 30 seconds but they will only record for 10 seconds. Why is that?

I got it working Hooray. The problem was that I was following the directions in the Arlo Users Manual to set the recording length which said to check the edit icon next to "ARMED" and then set your recording times. Since following the directions did not work, I decided yesterday that I was going to create a new mode like one of the replies suggested when a light bulb came on. I said to myself that I don't use the Armed Mode I use the All Motion On Mode. With that in mind I checked the edit icon next to All Motion On and set the recording time from that. It worked. I was trying to set it from the wrong mode....sometimes following the directions leads you in the wrong direction.
Thanks for everyone's help.

Prob cause you didn't hit the save button after changing the time... after you back out from the time page, there's a save button on the bottom which must be clicked.
If you did and your time still says 30 seconds when checking again then exit out and reboot the base via the power button

I checked the settings for recording time and they were set at 30 seconds. I actually re-set them again to 30 seconds and the recording time on the playback still shows 10 seconds. Since it still didn't work properly I powered down the base unit, as you suggested, powered it back up. I then went to each camera location so it would record myself making sure I was out there for each camera for at least 30 seconds plus. The library showed I had recordings however the recordings were still only for 10 seconds. So unfortunately your suggestions did not work. Does anyone have any more ideas as to how to get the recording time to work?

eyesonu,
Did creating a new mode resolve the issue? Are you still experiencing shorter record times than what you have set? Please let us know.

Tom:
I'm having some real issues with over-extended recordings of up to two minutes even when the set time is 15 secs.
Just posted a couple of messages about it, really frustrating as it happens while the cording camera(s) are turned off. Seems to affect all cameras with cross-recording rules (I've been able to narrow it down to this) and all started a few days after the most recent base station firmware update.
Has anyone else reported this? Contacted tech support yesterday and they told me to remove/reset camera and that didn't work.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Paul

Tom uses nested rules; I don't. However, it appears that nested rules default to certain settings such as what you're experiencing. I'd guess that one or more of your cameras are set for 2 minute recordings while others aren't. I believe Tom has suggested making all settings the same to avoid confusion. It shouldn't be necessary to do this but is just the way it works right now.
Just out of curiosity, where in your nested rules is the 2 minute recording setting? At the beginning, middle or end of the setup?

jguerdat:
Looks like that is it.........not sure but I believe before the recent firmware and android app updates, the time default was 10 secs. and you didn't need to enter any other numbers. One could just let it default to 10.
However that changed after those updates and a number had to be entered or accept the default of 120 secs. Had not noticed till last Thursday that existing nested rules also got automatically changed to a 120 secs. default.
I use a 15 secs. recording time for regular rules and had been leaving the 10 secs. default in my nested rules. So that must've been the cause of the multiple two minutes recordings. Changed that and all is working well now.
The affected nested rules were at the beginning of the setup.
Thank you very much for the feedback, was ready to send my cameras back for repairs!

btw:
Forgot to mention the other weird thing I noticed, a turned off camera will still record when part of a nested rule. Turning it off only turns off the motion sensing!
Found that out when I turned off my cameras making the long recordings, trying to stop them. They would still record as long as the motion triggering camera was on. Weird......never expected that.

I'd open a case on that to raise awareness. Off should mean off.

Paul_FCCL,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have tested this and I see this behavior as well. I have escalated this issue.

The cameras still recoding even while turned off should be seriously looked at by Netgear. The issue with the extra long recordings has been explained and now resolved thanks to jguerdat (see previous messages). However the cameras still working while turned off is still a problem.
Thanks for escalating it.

Thought I'd give you an update on this........contacted tech support and after a couple of calls I was told that "it's supposed to be like that" so OFF doesn't mean completely off for a camera, it only stops the motion sensing but not the recording, when triggered by another camera.
I still believe it's wrong camera behavior, just like anything else.....OFF means OFF!
Thanks.

Or check the FAQs or the various threads here. It's simple - use the Mode tab, select your base and edit your modes (Armed by default). All settings are in your modes, including recording time. Be sure to save after making changes. Some save selections are one page back and there may be multiple places to save as you go out. ALos, the web version no longer has a Back link at the top left for some reason so use the Edit Rule link instead.
