I’ve been using my Arlo pro 2 camera and base station for a very long time (with no subscription), but recently they only capture about 1/2 the motions that go by them, including big things like my car. I’ve had them so long, I’m willing to buy a new system, but don’t want to pay for a subscription. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this?

Without a subscription you won't get cloud recordings. A workaround (it doesn't work the same as cloud recordings) is to at least use a SmartHub (VMB4540 or 5000) with local recordings enabled. All cameras need to be connected to that, not your WiFi, in order to record. You will still get notifications but will need to use the app to download and view the associated recording. If you think you want to go that route, test it while still on a trial sub that comes with any new camera to see if it meets your needs.

@jguerdat is commenting on something totally unrelated. You don't need a better base station, and although having local recordings is good, the implementation of it leaves a lot to be desired by modern standards. Pro 2 offers cloud recordings.

The matter you're referring to is missed recordings which you'll see a few of us have commented on. This is irrespective of how far away the object is. My Arlo cameras became unreliable in capturing movement.

So, unless the Dev Team can finally find the capacity to address this issue, if at all, it's still an ongoing problem for me, regardless of what SmartHub or base station one has, and also regardless of the type of the camera.

Did you check the motion detection threshold?  The default was 80 for a long time, but more recently that appears to have been changed to 50.  In some cases, the new default was somehow applied to already installed cameras (that happened to some of mine).

Actually it is responsive to the original post.  @sukaltu01 said he was willing to buy new a new system, but didn't want to pay for a subscription.
