People walking come from the far left of the camera, to the far right, before getting to the dor but the camera only picks up the montion right when they get to the door.  Its at 7ft off the ground, has full field of view of the area, the camera is set to 95% sensitivity... What is the deal with these things?

this question has come up and answered many times.

Unlrss mains powered cams which constantly are watching for motion, battery operated cams use a PIR motion detection sysyem.  This requires a couple of seconds before recording starts after motion is detected.

In the FAQs there's tips to optimize your chances of catching the action. The trick I find helps me the most is to locate one cam very early in the movement and through a rule link it to start recording a cam that watches the door or whatever is you main target.

What you're getting is about right.  Motion for a person can be up to 20 feet or so but other factors can make that distance smaller.  The IR signature of the surroundings can mask to person to some degree and the view you post seems to show the further area being light-colored which may be reflecting the sun's IR.

It might be bst to use two cameras with nested rules to make sure you get what you need:

cam1 detects, cam1 records

cam1 detects, cam2 records

cam2 detects, cam2 records

cam2 detects, cam1 records

Or try different locations for the single camera to improve the detection.

Set the motion sensitivity to 100. You can use the motion sensitivity test function to see if it's picking up motion. It may be that the motion is detected but the delay between motion and recording is too much. It's one of the big criticisms of the Arlo HD cameras and has been rectified with the Arlo Pro cameras
