Local Storage does not work on any Base Station except Arlo Pro?

Is it really true that local storage does not work on any base station other that the Arlo Pro?

If that's the case, why do they have 2 USB ports on the base station?

Because they were put there with the possibility of future enhancements that never came to fruition
