How long does camera stay on?

When I'm at work and "peek in" at a live camera feed at home, does the camera only stay on for the 10-15 seconds i'm peeking in, or does the camera stay on for a longer period of time?

It stays live until you hit the pause button. Backgrounding the app also pauses.
