How do I optimize motion detection on Arlo Essential Outdoor Camera (2nd Gen)?

I've recently installed the Arlo Essential Outdoor Camera (2nd Generation) and I'm noticing inconsistent motion detection—sometimes it misses movement, other times it triggers too easily. I've adjusted sensitivity settings but still can't find the sweet spot. Has anyone found an ideal configuration for reliable alerts without too many false positives? Also curious if placement or angle makes a big difference. Appreciate any tips or shared experiences!

There is no "one size fits all" sensitivity.  My suggestion is to use the motion detection test while you are walking around in the area of interest.  Find the smallest sensitivity that detects you reliably, and set the threshold to slightly above that.  You still might get more false positives than you want, but if you go lower you will end up with missed detections.

Arlo specs the max motion detection range as 7 m (23 feet).  In practice, the camera will sometimes trigger on motion that is farther away (in particular vehicles), but not as reliably.

It does.  The cameras use a passive IR sensor (PIR) to detect motion - they are not using the video.  The sensor is more sensitive at the bottom of the field of view than the top.  It also is more sensitive to side-to-side motion than it is to motion directly towards the camera.
