I am trying to create an automation that sets the system to arm away when both my wife and I are gone. It looks to me like I have it setup correctly but it changes to arm away only when I leave even if my wife is home. So if I leave and the wife is home it changes to arm away. If I am home but my wife leaves it stays in stand by.

Make sure your wife opens the app periodically. If she doesn't the app will automatically log her out, causing geofencing to think she's always away. The time period for the logout is 2 weeks so anytime during that period she should open the app, even if she does nothing else.
