Hi,

I only have a wifi modem to connect the base station to. Will it work if I just connect the wifi modem into the usb port of the base station? I am doing this at the moment but the Internet LED is not lighting up.

Thanks,

Ellen

No, this will not work as the Arlo Base requires the ethernet port on your switch/router

( it will not work with the usb port and BTW, the usb ports on the base are not fully functional and are there for future options from Netgear )

However, you CAN use a WiFi extender with an Ethernet port to connect the base.

That's a good idea. However my wifi modem only has a usb cable connected to it. I found this

D-Link Dual Band Wireless AC750 VDSL2+/ADSL2+ Modem Router

with a usb port. Will it work if I connect the wifi modem through that port and then connect the arlo's LAN cable from the Router's LAN?

Thanks.

You misunderstand.  The WiFi extender connects via WiFi to your WiFi-only router.  The extender also has an Ethernet port which allows a wired device to be able to be connected to your WiFi network through the extender.

It sounds like you're an Aussie since a search on that device turns up primarily Australian sites. It also seems that you use a DSL connection to your ISP.  The D-Link router has Ethernet ports so would allow the same thing as long as the device is supported by your ISP (some ISPs support only certain modems).  If you're using an external modem that would connect to this router via Ethernet, there should be no issue.

The extender would likely be cheaper than the router.
