I have a new phone which I installed the Android App on. I keep getting "an error occurred" and it won't log in.

Details
I got to the point where I needed to approve an unrecognized device. I tried changing to a text message but the text message took a long time so after several tries, I gave up. Tried to have it by email and again took a long time so by the time the code showed up the time expired. So, finally tried the approval from an existing device and at that point all I get is the error occurred, try again. I started this last night and as of the next day at noon I'm still stuck. I've tried uninstalling the app a couple of times as well.

Try turning off WiFi and use only cell service. If you can then log in, turn WiFi back on and test.
