Cars have a very large IR signature. Given the motion detector is a PIR sensor, little wonder they trigger the camera when it's positioned where it is. Also, PIR sensors work by IR signatures moving across the FOV and "breaking beams". Anything moving directly towards the camera is difficult to detect. The Arlo Pro uses 2x PIR sensors and detects much better but probably would also have a problem in this position with detecting cars and not detecting people moving directly towards the camera. Given the roadside is so close, you're going to need to reposition the camera. Either that or use an Arlo Pro 2 with AC power and enabled activity zones to ignore the road
