Hi all,

I’ve had Arlo now for a couple of months. One thing I’ve noticed which is annoying is I can have the camera on the front of my property on a 10 second record, for example it can pick up a car parking onto the drive , but then it won’t pick people getting out of the car and going into the house .
Shouldn’t arlo record ten seconds when it detects movement and then when detecting movement straight after record another ten seconds?

Is there an option that if it keeps detecting movement whilst in record mode it just adds on an extra ten seconds?

I do find it misses footage at times which is frustrating..

PIR sensors like the ones in your camera detect changes in heat. The car radiates many times more heat than the humans, thus they overpower the heat given off by humans and animals that are close to the car.

Secondly, there is avout a 3 - 4 second delay from the time the sensor detects motion and when it starts to record. Part of this is the nature of the sensors and the other part is that the commands from the sensor go to Arlo's servers and then back to your system before the recording starts. So once the people leave the area of the car which is radiating a lot of heat and the sensor picks them up again, plus a 3 to 4 second delay, they are already out of range of the camera.

Thirdly, PIR sensors do not detect objects coming directly towards or away from the sensor as much as when the object moves across the face of the sensor's field of view.

The easiest way to solve this is by making the recordings longer and adjusting the sensitivity of the sensor in the camera upwards.

The Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 have the facility to "Record until activity stops (up to 300 seconds)"
For the Arlo HD, I find I generally use between 30-60 seconds depending on the location. 10 seconds is definitely not long enough, especially given the relatively long recycle time of the Arlo HD before it's ready to start detecting motion again

HI Brian thanks now for the reply,
How do you mean by the following ?

“adjusting the sensitivity of the sensor in the camera upwards.”

Thanks

In the app go to your Modes and then select the Armed Mode.

This takes you to the Edit Mode page.

Go to the Section called Rules. There should be a Rule for each camera that says something like,"Record Video on (the name of the camera you are working with), if, (the name of the camera you wish to start recording on - probably you want the record on the same camera) When Motion is Detected".

Click on the green pencil to the left of that text. That takes you to the Edit Rule page.

Go down to where Motion is Detected and click on that green pencil. This takes you to the Motion Detection page.

Adjust the slider more towards the 100%. (You will have to experiment with this setting to find the amount of sensitivity you want without getting false detections.

At the top of this page, select Save.

Repeat for each camera.
