Base unit and wifi

Is the base station used for the Arlo  cameras only? My I phone will not connect to base as a wifi source.. when I attempt the password will not allow me to connect. Is there something I missed with the password.? Is the design of the base to sync with ARLO cameras only and not be a general wifi source?

The base can only be used for the camera eras. There's no way to log into a base.
