It's my understanding that some time ago Arlo was going to enable the feature in the original system to be able to record video to an attached drive.  I would like to see this feature enabled in a firmware update.

I go back to before Arlo ( vuezone than Netgear picked up ) and it was never promised as a service with the original base unit...the USB ports were stated as " for possible future options".

I don't think you'll see the change in the older base as it may also be a hardware issue ( slower processor/ lower mem )

Not to mention the PRO base does exactly that already.... sort of like a newer model of phones, each release gets improved .... and the PRO base is sold as an invidual unit if you did want to upgrade to the backup drive as it will fully work with all your older cameras
