Arlo ethernet cable....why does ethernet cable die from router/arlo after power surge

Every time there is a power surge, the ethernet cable between the router and Arlo base dies and I have to replace it...both arlo and router are on surge protectors. Anybody else have this issue?

Surge protectors likely aren't doing much. A true surge would take out more than an Ethernet cable. I'd question whether the cable is actually the problem.

A power surge is usually from something like a lightning strike where the voltage into your house can rise to thousands of volts nearly instantaneously. That would potentially wipe out many devices that are plugged in as well as possibly starting a fire. A power outage is more likely where the voltage drops down (brown-out) or even dies completely. This can last from milliseconds to days. A better solution since you seem to have an ongoing issue would be a battery backup known as a UPS (uninterruptible power supply). Plug your modem, router and base into this and the outages will disappear for these devices. You don't need a killer UPS - I use a ~$100 750VA unit. Even cheaper ones would help - the difference is how long you expect an outage to be.
